For
the past couple months, I have been taking my four sons (really three,
my three-year-old walks around hitting us with his sword) and my two
daughters, through “The Four Initiations of a Man” – what it means to
embrace, steward and release the four areas of every radically humble,
successful man!
You have may have already seen something similar to this, but it has been a huge revelation to my family and me. My kids have asked
the most amazing questions and been very intrigued with the process.
You may ask, why take your girls through what in means to be a “true”
man? It is a very simple answer: I want them to be extremely particular
and very serious about whom they choose as a life-time mate.
If they do
not know how to identify a real man, what a tragedy – it’s my
responsibility to teach them!
Most
cultures that understand initiations (America doesn’t) have only
affirmed one of these archetypes – maybe two, at the best.
Our job today
is difficult, because we must affirm, educate and validate all four
archetypes and let them simmer and grow together to create a full man.
Now, we need enlightened and transformed warriors, wise men, and lovers
of life and beauty to produce truly big picture men – or kings.
