I was reading in 2 Samuel 7 – it is an amazing look into David’s heart and why I think the Lord called him a man after My own heart…

It tells the story of how after David was settled in his palace and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies around him, he had a thought. “Here I am, living in a palace of cedar, while the ark of the God remains in a tent.” Nathan the prophet tells him to do whatever is in his heart, “For the Lord is with you.”

Of course, as is with today, the prophet of the Lord gets a word and tells David that the Lord says he will make David great, give him rest, the people will be blessed because of him, and then the Lord says something very cool, “The Lord Himself will establish a house for you: When your days are over and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up an offspring to succeed you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom!” What an amazing picture from the Father; I love that you want to build it for me, but, you don’t have to build it, I love you so much David, I will build it and it will be your own son that helps me, as you are my son!

Look at David’s response; “Who am I and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? And if this were not enough in your sight, you have also spoken about the future, is this your usual way of dealing with man? What more can I say? For the sake of your word and according to your will, you have done a great thing and made it known to your servant. How great you are, O Sovereign Lord! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.”

David was in awe, adoration, thanksgiving for just being a son! I love his heart towards the Lord, he was talking with a friend, with adoration, love, inexpressible gratitude for who the Lord is and will always be.
Not sure if he could have responded this way without the days of the spears being chucked at him, the caves and running from Saul…

Psalms 100, we enter into his gate, or presence, with thanksgiving, what are you thankful for today? Tell the Lord, He loves to talk with His kids.

One response to ““For the Lord is with you.””
